In March 2020, for the first time in it’s 112-year-old history, Chilliwack’s historic Royal Hotel dimmed the lights, locked the front doors and did not re-open until June 2020.
The far-reaching effects of the Covid 19 pandemic on the tourism industry are widely known. It basically began in February of last year; when word that a virus was spreading quickly through cruise ships. In the weeks following, nearly every phone call that came into the hotel was a cancellation.
Since re-opening in June, the hotel has had to adapt to this new reality of running a hotel while ensuring all Covid 19 safety protocols are being followed. This includes continuously sanitizing public spaces and guest rooms - and unfortunately minimizing personal interactions with guests.
Checking in and out of the hotel is now nearly contactless – and soon that contact will be eliminated altogether when new coded door locks are installed throughout the hotel. Guests will be sent a code which will allow them to access both the hotel’s front and room doors for truly keyless entry.
Communication with guests is by text and email - and rooms are only serviced by housekeeping staff once guests have checked out.
These changes are necessary to ensure the Royal Hotel remains relevant and guests feel safe & confident in their decision to stay with us.
