Former students and teachers will gather to share stories and memories made over the past decades at the downtown school.

Refreshments, lunch and a commemorative cake will be served during the open house that will take place at the school on Saturday, September 28th, between 11 am to 4 pm.

Built for $80,000 dollars, Chilliwack’s new Central School opened on Young Road in the fall of 1929. It was a replacement for the original Central School that was located on Yale Road, where Southgate Mall is. Robert Brock, who had built Chilliwack’s c.1909 Royal Hotel twenty years earlier, was also the school’s general contractor.

On opening day in 1929, teachers welcomed 415 students into the three-story building. The new school boasted 18 classrooms along with separate indoor play spaces for boys and girls and was built on the site of the former Chilliwack High School.
